Sind Ost und West immer noch getrennt?

Natürlich ist die tödliche Betonmauer zwischen Ost- und Westdeutschland schon lange weg. Aber die Mauer im Geiste steht immer noch. 36 Jahre nach der Wiedervereinigung sagen zwei Drittel der Deutschen, sie sehen eher das Trennende, als das Verbindende. Warum das so ist, erklärt die Ostbeauftragte der Bundesregierung, Elisabeth Kaiser, im DW-Gespräch. #dwgermanpolitics

Die in Teilen rechtsextreme Partei „Alternative für Deutschland“ ist in drei ostdeutschen Landtagen mittlerweile die stärkste Fraktion. Im Wahlkampf präsentierte sich die AfD als Vorkämpferin für Ostdeutschland. In Berlin wurde die Linke bei der letzten Wahl stärkste Kraft. Somit dominieren Parteien der politischen Ränder die ostdeutschen Parlamente. Es scheint so, dass Ostdeutschland extremer wählt als der Rest von Deutschland.

Elisabeth Kaiser ist seit 2025 Ostbeauftragte. Die Staatsministerin im Finanzministerium gehört der SPD, der Sozialdemokratischen Partei Deutschlands, an und vertritt den Wahlkreis Gera-Greiz-Altenburger Land im Bundestag. In der Stadt Gera, im ostdeutschen Bundesland Thüringen, wurde Elisabeth Kaiser 1987 geboren.
