Sharma Oli resmi mengundurkan diri pada Selasa (9/9/2025), hanya sehari setelah kerusuhan berdarah menewaskan sedikitnya 19 orang dan melukai lebih dari 400 lainnya di ibu kota Kathmandu.
Sebelum mengumumkan pengunduran dirinya, Oli sempat menggelar pertemuan dengan seluruh partai politik.
Dalam kesempatan itu ia menegaskan bahwa kekerasan tidak akan membawa kebaikan bagi bangsa.
Demonstran merayakan pengunduran diri PM Oli setelah memasuki kompleks parlemen.
Seorang ajudan mengungkap bahwa Presiden Paudel telah memulai proses untuk membentuk pemerintahan baru, menyusul pengunduran diri PM Oli.
Sebelumnya, 3 menteri sudah terlebih dahulu mengundurkan diri menyusul protes mematikan atas dugaan korupsi pemerintah yang menewaskan 19 orang.
Gelombang unjuk rasa yang dipicu larangan media sosial itu kini berkembang menjadi perlawanan besar-besaran terhadap korupsi dan sikap pemerintah, meski otoritas telah memberlakukan jam malam tanpa batas waktu.
Mengabaikan jam malam, para pengunjuk rasa menerobos masuk ke parlemen negara itu dan membakar gedung, kata seorang pejabat.
Sebelumnya, mereka menyerbu kantor partai terbesar di negara itu, Kongres Nepal, dan kediaman beberapa politisi terkemuka.
