Melansir The Guardian (24/7), 400 lembaga, instansi pemerintah dan bisnis, telah menjadi korban, menurut Eye Security Belanda.
Menurut laporan, mayoritas serangan menyasar Amerika Serikat, termasuk badan pengawas senjata nuklir AS.
Microsoft mengidentifikasi tiga kelompok peretas: Linen Typhoon, Violet Typhoon, dan Storm-2603, yang semuanya berbasis di Tiongkok.
Kelompok ini mengeksploitasi kerentanan baru pada server yang terhubung ke internet sejak 7 Juli lalu.
Perusahaan memperingatkan bahwa serangan diperkirakan akan terus berlanjut terhadap sistem SharePoint yang belum diperbarui.
Violet Typhoon disebut telah lama menargetkan lembaga pemerintah, media, sektor keuangan, dan kesehatan di AS dan Asia Timur.
Microsoft menyatakan ancaman akan meluas jika sistem tidak segera ditambal dengan pembaruan keamanan.
Sebagai respons, Microsoft dan IBM telah mengurangi proyek riset berbasis AI di Tiongkok akibat meningkatnya pengawasan dari AS.
