Ses emblèmes comme le triangle rouge, représentatif de la répartition égale du temps dans une journée, ou l’aubépine, à consonnance plus tragique, sont des marques d’un rêve d’émancipation mais aussi de désillusion. Aujourd’hui encore, il résonne dans les rues du monde entier.
Dans une centaine de pays du monde, principalement en Europe mais pas seulement, on célèbre le 1er mai les combats du mouvement ouvrier par des défilés syndicaux et des festivités. C'est un jour de luttes qui est aussi un jour peu à peu devenu férié, l'un des rares dans le calendrier qui ne soit pas directement associé à une fête religieuse. Mais plusieurs histoires se donnent rendez-vous ce même jour de l'année…
