US President Donald Trump has announced a framework deal with China over TikTok’s ownership in America and said he would speak with his counterpart, Xi Jinping, on Friday. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the threat of shutting down the social media site in the US had persuaded Chinese negotiators to drop their demands. Meanwhile, Beijing officials added that the deal could not be finalised at the expense of Chinese firms' interests. The deal was finalised on the second day of talks, which also included discussions on the ongoing trade dispute between the two countries. The deal over TikTok's US ownership was reached just ahead of a looming deadline for ByteDance in America on September 17, which had been extended three times since January, following the arrival of the Trump administration.---
