St Helena Airport behind the scenes!
In this video we take an insider's tour of the famous St Helena Airport, located out in the mid-South Atlantic between Africa and South America. This British overseas territory could only be reached by ship until 2017 when this airport came online, and they quickly discovered that its location on a cliffs edge out in the middle of the ocean meant especially challenging wind conditions for inbound aircraft with severe turbulence and windshear the norm on the approach.But they figured out how to make it all work safely and there's a very capable team here ensuring smooth operations for this critical lifeline to one of the world's most remote islands. We look at everything that goes into running this very special airport including chats with the people managing safety and security, IT and ops and, perhaps most critically, the weather!
