Neue Spitze der Unionsfraktion! Pressekonferenz mit Merz, Söder, Linnemann und HoffmannDie CDU-CSU-Bundestagsfraktion hat Thorsten Frei mit fast 93 Prozent zum neuen Fraktionsvorsitzenden gewählt. Friedrich Merz und Markus Söder hatten ihn gemeinsam vorgeschlagen. Die Wahl wurde nach dem Rücktritt von Jens Spahn nötig.
Merz kündigte weitere Nachbesetzungen in Fraktion und Bundesregierung an. Weitere Personalveränderungen plane er nicht. Die neue Aufstellung solle Reformen voranbringen und die Kommunikation zwischen Bundesregierung, Bundestagsfraktion und Partei verbessern.
Frei bezeichnete das Ergebnis als Vertrauensbeweis. Er will die Bundesregierung bei der Umsetzung von Wahlprogramm und Koalitionsvertrag unterstützen. Zugleich soll die Fraktion eine eigene Stimme behalten. Als zentrale Vorhaben bis zum Jahresende nannte er Pflege, Rente, Arbeitsmarkt, Steuern und Bürokratierückbau.
Söder sprach von Rückenwind und Rückhalt. Die Fraktion habe trotz einer turbulenten Woche Handlungsfähigkeit gezeigt. Alexander Hoffmann betonte, die Nachfolge sei zügig geklärt worden.
Merz räumte Probleme der Union ein. Umfragewerte von 22 bis 24 Prozent seien unzureichend. Die CDU-CSU müsse bessere Politikangebote machen und Vertrauen zurückgewinnen.
