Die 50-jährige Christa Pike wurde 1996 für den Mord an einer damals 19-jährigen Bekannten zum Tode verurteilt. Die Täterin war zum Tatzeitpunkt 18 Jahre alt.1995 hatten drei Teenager das Opfer in einem abgelegenen Gebiet nahe der University of Tennessee in Knoxville gefoltert und getötet. Nach Angaben der gemeinnützigen Organisation Death Penalty Information Center ist Pike die Einzige der drei, die zum Tode verurteilt wurde. Ihr damaliger Freund war zum Zeitpunkt der Tat 17 Jahre alt, er erhielt eine lebenslange Haftstrafe. Eine weitere 18-Jährige wurde zu einer Bewährungsstrafe verurteilt.
