Bentrok ini bermula dari penangkapan massal terhadap migran tak berdokumen di daerah tersebut.
Dikutip dari The Guardian, sejumlah pemimpin California seperti Gubernur Gavin Newsom dan Wali Kota Los Angeles Karen Bass menuduh Pesiden Donald Trump sebagai biang keladi bentrok.
Pasalnya, Trump mengambil keputusan yang tidak lazim dengan mengerahkan pasukan Garda Nasional ke negara bagian.
Padahal, situasi di Los Angeles sedang genting buntut penggerebekan yang dilakukan petugas imigrasi.
"Ini adalah pelanggaran serius terhadap kedaulatan negara," ujar Newsom.
Dilaporkan ada 118 imigran yang ditangkap dan ditahan dalam beberapa hari terakhir.
Penangkapan tersebut memicu demo besar-besaran di jalanan Los Angeles pada Jumat (6/6/2025) yang menuntut para imigran dibebaskan.
Demo yang terus berlanjut membuat Trump akhirnya mengerahkan 2.000 personel Garda Nasional dengan tujuan untuk mengendalikan situasi.
Hanya saja, langkah tersebut justru membuat kerusuhan semakin parah.
Massa yang marah bahkan membakar mobil sambil mengkritik Donald Trump.
Sementara petugas berupaya meredam kerusuhan dengan menembakkan gas air mata.
