I went inside Karachi’s legendary Hakeem Centre to explore one of the last surviving camera markets in the world - a place packed with vintage cameras, rare camcorders, and repair shops that keep old gear alive.

This market has been operating since the film era and is home to dozens of small shops selling everything from modern digital cameras to classic brands like Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Fujifilm, Olympus, and Pentax. You’ll also find vintage and hard-to-find models from Yashica, Minolta, Zenit (Soviet camera), Praktica, Leica, and other film-era manufacturers that have disappeared from most parts of the world.

In this video, I walk through the market searching for a camcorder while exploring stacks of old camcorders, film cameras, lenses, and accessories - many of which haven’t been made for decades.

What makes this place unique is that alongside buying and selling, skilled technicians here can still repair cameras that would be considered unusable in most countries.

Most camera markets faded away with the rise of smartphones and digital photography… but in Karachi, they’re still alive.

If you’re into photography, filmmaking, vintage cameras, or hidden markets around the world, this is a place you won’t believe still exists.

If you like places like this, check out my black market and street market tours across India and Pakistan, I’ve explored some wild ones.
