We continue to wait for more updates after President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan was proposed to conclude the nearly two-year war in the Gaza Strip, which would see the return of any remaining hostages held by Hamas. Regardless of what happens next, we do know that the International Red Cross will be involved in some capacity. The Red Cross is a neutral entity that focuses on protecting civilian life and facilitating medical care. Dominique Maria Bonessi is a spokesperson with the International Red Cross and joins LiveNOW’s Austin Westfall as the Red Cross continues to evaluate their next steps in Gaza.Israel’s bombardment over the past 23 months has killed more than 65,100 people in Gaza, according to the territory’s Health Ministry. More than 40 hostages reportedly remain in Gaza, with fewer than half believed to still be alive. Hamas-led militants stormed into southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting 251 others.
