Pasalnya jika itu berhasil, maka kapal berusia 40 tahun tersebut akan menjadi kapal induk pertama yang dimiliki Indonesia.
Lantas bagaimana spesifikasi dan kehebatannya?.
ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi merupakan kapal induk pertama yang dibangun untuk Angkatan Laut Italia dan difungsikan untuk mengoperasikan pesawat sayap tetap.
Kapal ini dibangun oleh galangan Fincantieri di Monfalcone dan resmi masuk dinas pada 30 September 1985.
Selama hampir 40 tahun pengabdian, kapal induk ini telah terlibat dalam berbagai operasi militer Italia, mulai dari Somalia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, hingga Libya, sebelum akhirnya dipensiunkan pada Oktober 2024.
Dari sisi ukuran, kapal ini memiliki panjang sekitar 180 meter dengan lebar 33 meter.
Bobotnya saat penuh mencapai hampir 14 ribu ton.
Untuk penggerak, Giuseppe Garibaldi ditenagai empat turbin gas LM2500 dengan total tenaga lebih dari 80 ribu tenaga kuda.
Kecepatan maksimumnya mencapai 30 knot, atau sekitar 56 kilometer per jam, dengan jarak jelajah hingga 7.000 mil laut.
Kapal Induk ini dioperasikan oleh sekitar 830 personel, termasuk kru kapal, teknisi udara, hingga staf komando.
Di dek penerbangannya, Giuseppe Garibaldi mampu membawa hingga 16 pesawat tempur STOVL jenis AV-8B Harrier II, ditambah helikopter untuk misi anti-kapal selam maupun transportasi.
Untuk mendukung lepas landas pesawat, dek kapal dilengkapi dengan ski-jump miring sekitar 6,5 derajat.
Sebagai kapal induk ringan, persenjataan Giuseppe Garibaldi cukup lengkap.
Ia dilengkapi sistem rudal Aspide untuk pertahanan udara jarak menengah, meriam CIWS Oto Melara 40 mm untuk menangkis serangan jarak dekat, tabung torpedo anti-kapal selam, serta perangkat peperangan elektronik.
Sistem radar dan sonar modern juga disematkan, termasuk radar udara, radar navigasi, hingga sonar bawah laut untuk mendeteksi ancaman kapal selam.
Meski ukurannya lebih kecil dibandingkan kapal induk modern, Giuseppe Garibaldi terbukti andal sebagai kapal serbu dengan kemampuan multifungsi: mengoperasikan jet tempur, helikopter, hingga menjadi pusat komando laut.
Kendati berusia 40 tahun, kehadiran kapal induk ini dipandang TNI AL sebagai lompatan strategis untuk memperkuat kemampuan laut Indonesia, khususnya dalam konteks negara kepulauan yang membutuhkan armada dengan daya jelajah dan fleksibilitas tinggi.
