US President Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff on Indian goods. He made the announcement on Truth Social today, listing a series of complaints against India. Trump cited a rising trade deficit and claimed that India purchases too many weapons from Russia. The new tariff rates will take effect once the deadline expires on August 1. But that's not all. Trump is also hinting at additional penalties on top of the 25%. The Republican leader said India's continued purchase of Russian oil and military equipment has helped fuel the war in Ukraine. As a result, he plans to impose a further "penalty" starting Friday. "While India is our friend, we've done relatively little business with them over the years because their tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the world," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "They also have the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary trade barriers of any country," he stated.---
