Japan has inducted its JS Chokai warship that is now armed with the long-range Tomahawk cruise missile. The Japanese Destroyer spent nearly a year in the United States where it underwent modifications to its software and hardware for Tomahawk operations. Japan is working to induct at least 7 more such destroyers that will be capable of launching the Tomahawk missile. Tokyo has cited growing threats from China, North Korea and Russia for its induction of the Tomahawk. Meanwhile, Japan has requested the US to deploy the powerful Typhon missile to Hokkaido, a move that Russia has now called a 'threat' to its national security. Meanwhile, Japan is going ahead with what looks like its largest-ever military spending budget in 2027, with a focus on inducting more drones, laser weapons and long-range missiles, like the Tomahawk.
