Heatwave Alert In Delhi; Indian Govt To Standardise AC Temperatures

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange heatwave alert in the capital, Delhi, as citizens reel under the scorching heat. The IMD has warned of rising temperatures for June 10 and 11. Delhi recorded its highest temperature of the season with mercury soaring to 43.8 degrees Celsius, 3.6 notches above the season’s average on June 10. The IMD said that heatwave conditions are expected to prevail over northwest India. A heatwave warning is in place in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the Indian government is planning to limit air conditioner temperatures. With the new rule in place, the minimum AC temperature would be limited to 20 degrees Celsius and the maximum to 28 degrees Celsius. The regulation is a bid to conserve energy amid rising demand.
