Russia Earthquake LIVE: Tsunami Hits Russia's Far East, Japan After 8.8 Earthquake In Kamchatka
Tsunami hits parts of Russia’s Far East after a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake jolted the Kamchatka Peninsula. Russian authorities said the tsunami flooded the port town of Severo-Kurilsk, and the epicentre was located 125 kilometres east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. According to reports, many people sustained injuries. The tsunami also caused major damage to buildings, and video footage showed structures being submerged in seawater. It is the strongest earthquake in the Kamchatka region since 1952. The tsunami also struck Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido, and nearly a million people are under evacuation orders. The first tsunami waves have also reached Alaska, and the US Coast Guard has instructed all commercial ships to vacate Hawaii’s ports and prohibited any vessels from entering. Other countries, including the Peru, China, and Ecuador, have also issued warnings.---
