ICC Convicts Al-Qaeda Linked Leader Of War Crimes In Mali's Timbuktu | Firstpost AfricaThe International Criminal Court has convicted Al-Qaeda-linked leader Al Hassan Ag Abdoul Aziz Ag Mohamed Ag Mahmoud of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Timbuktu. Charges against the 46-year-old jihadist police chief include torture, rape, sexual slavery and destroying religious and historic buildings. Al Hassan played an important role in the Ansar Dine Islamist group. In 2012, the Al-Qaeda-linked group took over Mali's Timbuktu and tried to impose the Sharia Law.
