NATO Secretary-General Credits Trump for Record Number of Defence Spending | Firstpost America

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg credited former US President Donald Trump for pushing European member states of the security alliance to increase their military spending which has now helped a record number of NATO member countries to meet their contribution requirements. In 2014, NATO members decided to set an investment target of 2% of their GDPs towards national and collective defence. Now, with Russian President Vladimir Putin continuing his war in Ukraine, a record more than 20 out of 32 NATO members met their target of defence spending. This comes after Trump repeatedly said that he would not protect NATO members from Russian attacks if he is re-elected in November. On the other hand, current President Joe Biden has pledged more American support to the Western Security Bloc.
