Die USA zünden die nächste Stufe im globalen Rüstungswettlauf. Ex-Präsident Donald Trump plant für 2027 eine massive Erhöhung des US-Militärbudgets auf rund 1,5 Billionen Dollar. Damit würden die Vereinigten Staaten ihren bereits bestehenden Vorsprung weiter ausbauen. Schon heute entfallen mehr als ein Drittel der weltweiten Militärausgaben auf die USA. Ziel der geplanten Aufrüstung ist laut Trump die militärische Dominanz gegenüber China und Russland. Gefördert werden unter anderem ein landesweites Raketenabwehrsystem („Golden Dome“), neue Marineprogramme mit unbemannten Schiffen, moderne Atom-U-Boote der Columbia-Klasse, das Interkontinentalraketenprojekt Sentinel sowie der neue Tarnkappenbomber B-21 Raider. Die angekündigten Investitionen markieren einen strategischen Machtanspruch in unruhigen Zeiten.
