What happens when you build an entire air service around people travelling with their dogs, in peace and comfort? We flew across the United States with RetrievAir to find out.RetrievAir is a pet-friendly public charter service that lets dogs travel in the cabin alongside their owners, including larger dogs that would normally have very limited options for air travel. Flights are operated by RVR Aviation using an Embraer ERJ-135 configured with just 30 seats, with private terminals, plenty of space, dog treats onboard and regular stops along the way.
For our trip, we flew from the New York area all the way to Los Angeles, stopping near Chicago, Dallas and Phoenix along the way. That means a full day aboard a cabin filled with dogs, plus a look at how the operation works, what the experience is actually like and where RetrievAir fits between conventional airlines and much more expensive private and premium pet travel options.
We also meet RetrievAir founder & CEO Benton Miller, talk to dog-loving flight attendant Brittany Maxwell, visit the cockpit to hear whether the Captain also loves dogs (of course he does) and, naturally, spend a lot of time playing with dogs.
