NAUFRAGIO que acabó en un SORTEO MORTAL - El Essex
Un cachalote gigantesco embistió dos veces al Essex y dejó a veinte marineros atrapados en mitad del océano Pacífico. Pero hundirse a casi 5.000 kilómetros de tierra firme solo fue el principio: el hambre, la sed y una terrible decisión convertirían este naufragio en una de las historias de supervivencia más brutales de todos los tiempos.En 1819, el Essex salió de Nantucket para realizar una expedición ballenera que debía durar varios años. Después de atravesar tormentas, rodear el cabo de Hornos y llenar cientos de barriles de aceite, la tripulación se encontró con un cachalote de unos 26 metros que atacó directamente el barco.
Los supervivientes quedaron repartidos en tres pequeños botes, con apenas agua y comida, obligados a cruzar miles de kilómetros contra el viento y las corrientes. Encontraron una isla desierta, fueron separados por tormentas y terminaron llevando la supervivencia hasta sus últimas consecuencias.
