Journalist searches for never-before-seen 9/11 images in new documentary
The September 11 terrorist attacks remain among the most visually documented events in human history, yet a quarter-century later, critical photographic evidence from that day remains unseen by the public. In his new documentary, "32 Frames: A 9/11 Mystery," director Jon Walczak examines newly-recovered, previously unpublished photographs taken at the base of the North Tower shortly before its collapse. Developed from a camera found in the rubble, the images are believed to have been captured by a victim who died moments later. Crucial digital media and archival materials from 9/11 face the threat of permanent loss, so Walczak is leading a dual fight for preservation: showcasing these haunting artifacts while also suing the FBI in federal court to force the release of developed disposable camera photos. Those images could be some of the only known pictures captured inside the Twin Towers above the point of impact, which could reshape our understanding of the tragedy's final moments.
