Il ghiacciaio dei Forni è un malato grave, gravissimo. In otto anni ha perso 400 metri di estensione e si è ridotto di spessore, perdendo l'altezza equivalente di un grattacielo di 20 piani. Lo dicono i numeri di Legambiente e del Servizio Glaciologico Lombardo e Università Statale di Milano. Ma basta recarsi sul posto per rendersi conto della situazione. Abbiamo percorso il sentiero glaciologico Stoppani-Desio, inaugurato lo scorso luglio, fino a poche decine di metri dalla nuova fronte. Che è molto, molto più lontana rispetto a dove si trovava nel 1995; a dove arrivava nel 2010; al punto che toccava nel 2016; e all'ultima rilevazione, quella del 2023. Ma da allora, passati solo tre anni, il ghiacciaio è ulteriormente arretrato. Siamo nelle zone in cui si combatté a lungo la Grande Guerra, nel gruppo montuoso dell'Ortles Cevedale. Oggi non resta più molto della distesa bianca su cui si confrontarono gli eserciti italiano e austroungarico. Resta la meraviglia di queste vette.
