My Exact 5-Step Method To Learn Anything Deeper
I've read hundreds of books over the years. But when I look back, I can barely remember what most of them were about. And yet, some ideas I encountered fifteen or twenty years ago have stayed with me. They've shaped how I invest, make decisions, raise my children, and understand life. What makes the difference? Why does some knowledge stay with us for decades while so much of what we read and watch disappears within weeks? In this episode of #TheInnerGame, I share a five-step learning framework I've developed through years of reading, writing, investing, and teaching. I call it D-E-P-T-H.
I'll also share five AI prompts that can help you learn more effectively while keeping you actively involved in the thinking. Whether you're a student, an investor, a professional, or simply someone who loves learning, I hope this framework helps you spend more time with ideas that matter to you.

Your seven-day challenge: Choose one question you're genuinely curious about. Spend 25–30 minutes exploring it each day. Write down what you remember, apply something you've learned, and explain it to someone else by the end of the week.
Then ask yourself: What can I now explain, solve, or do that I couldn't do seven days ago?

Five AI prompts to help you learn deeply:
1. DISCOVER — Find your learning question
I want to learn [subject]. Ask me up to five questions, one at a time, to find out what I already know, why I want to learn it, and what matters most to me. Then suggest one specific question to investigate first, and a realistic seven-day plan.
2. ENGAGE — Ask for hints, not answers
I'm studying [concept] and want to work it out myself. Give me one hint at a time, not the full explanation. After each hint, ask me to reason through the next step. Correct my mistakes without rewriting my answer.
3. PROCESS — Test your explanation
Here is my explanation of [concept]: [paste it]. Don't correct it yet. First, ask me three questions that test its assumptions and limitations. After I answer, tell me what I got right, what I missed, and what I got wrong.
4. TEST — Practise with new problems
Create three real-world problems involving [concept], increasing in difficulty. Present one at a time. Don't reveal the answer until I've attempted it. After each attempt, evaluate my reasoning, not only my final number, and point out which assumption I relied on.
5. HELP — Teach what you've learned
Act as a curious fifteen-year-old learning about [subject]. I'll explain it to you. Ask one follow-up question at a time. When an explanation is unclear, point to the exact sentence that confused you.

A small reminder: AI can be a useful learning companion, but it can also make mistakes. Check important claims against reliable sources.
Thank you for your time.
