Beyond the Surface | He He | TEDxWLSA Shanghai Academy

This workshop uses Michelangelo's two classic works—David and The Dying Slave—as its central focus. By connecting these works to the historical context in which the artist created them, the workshop explores the deep theme of "external appearance versus inner essence." It offers an in-depth interpretation of the strong contrast between the visual surface of the two paintings and the human nature and spiritual power hidden beneath. It uncovers the core idea of "looking beyond the surface to find inner truth." The workshop then connects this artistic theme to today's society, pointing out that our world is full of anxiety, doubt, and restlessness. People are easily fooled by appearances, leading to blind comparison and emotional exhaustion. It fully demonstrates the real-life value of seeing through appearances and searching for the essence. Finally, the workshop encourages people to let go of their obsession with surface appearances and learn to see the truth behind them. In these complex and changing times, we must actively build and hold onto a stable inner core. With a calm and clear mind, we can accept and face all kinds of challenges and uncertainties from the outside world. A big fan of Michelangelo, and also a firm believer that the best things in life are never on the surface. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx Receive SMS online on sms24.me
