Nuovo duro colpo alla criminalità organizzata cerignolana specializzata negli assalti ai portavalori. Dalle prime ore di questa mattina i carabinieri del comando provinciale di Bari stanno eseguendo un'ordinanza di custodia cautelare nei confronti di sette persone, ritenute appartenenti a un'organizzazione criminale dedita alle rapine ai blindati e ad altri gravi reati contro il patrimonio.
Il provvedimento è stato emesso dal gip del Tribunale di Bari su richiesta della Direzione distrettuale antimafia. Agli indagati vengono contestati, a vario titolo, l'associazione per delinquere, la rapina aggravata anche dal metodo mafioso e numerosi altri reati collegati all'attività del gruppo criminale.
L'operazione rappresenta una svolta investigativa nelle indagini sulla spettacolare rapina avvenuta il 6 novembre 2024 lungo la strada statale 96, nei pressi di Toritto. In quell'occasione un commando armato assaltò un mezzo blindato utilizzando numerosi colpi di kalashnikov, facendo esplodere la cabina posteriore del veicolo e incendiando alcune automobili per bloccare la circolazione e rallentare l'arrivo delle forze dell'ordine.
