Theo báo Giác ngộ, Ban Trị sự GHPGVN tỉnh Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu mới đây đã nhận được thư sám hối và xin lỗi từ Đại đức Thích Nhuận Đức. Sự việc bắt nguồn từ những phát ngôn gây phản cảm và vô tình có những lời nói khiếm nhã, đụng chạm đến đồng bào Khmer trong một video ghi hình năm 2023. Điều này không chỉ làm dấy lên làn sóng phẫn nộ trong dư luận mà còn gây thêm nhiều lùm xùm trong bối cảnh có nhiều vụ việc liên quan đến một số nhà sư gần đây. Trong thư sám hối đề ngày 26-6-2024, Đại đức Thích Nhuận Đức thừa nhận lỗi lầm và mong được sự tha thứ từ các cơ quan Phật giáo và đồng bào Khmer. Ông khẳng định đã gỡ bỏ những bài giảng nhạy cảm trên trang cá nhân của chùa từ ngày 4 tháng 6 năm 2024, khi bị Trung ương Giáo hội kỷ luật.
