Die Kommunen in Deutschland leiden seit Jahren. Stephan Meyer, Landrat von Görlitz, kann davon ein (Klage)Lied singen. Der CDU-Politiker sagt, sein Landkreis müsse Jahr für Jahr neue Schulden aufnehmen, um überhaupt seine Pflichtaufgaben zu leisten. Selbst, wenn er alle freiwilligen Ausgaben – beispielsweise für Musikschulen, Sportförderung und Kultur – streichen würde, stände noch ein dickes Minus. Da laufe etwas gewaltig falsch. Und das habe Folgen: Die schlechte finanzielle Ausstattung der Kommunen gefährde die Demokratie und treibe die Menschen in die Arme der AfD. Es brauche mehr Gelder von Bund und Ländern. Außerdem müssten Leistungen gekürzt werden, auch wenn das unpopulär sei. "Dieses gesamtgesellschaftliche Verständnis, das wir jetzt über die Verhältnisse leben und damit dann aber auch unsere Gemeinschaft sehr gefährden, das macht mir Sorge", so Meyer. Es brauche "fundamentale Reformen".Zum Beginn des Podcasts "Wahlkreis Ost" sprechen Host Malte Pieper und Focus-Chefreporterin Anja Maier aber zunächst über ein umstrittenes Foto. Es zeigt den sachsen-anhaltischen CDU-Fraktionschef Guido Heuer scheinbar kumpelhaft mit AfD-Spitzenkandidat Ulrich Siegmund. Das sorgt für Diskussionen.
