Adapun di Provinsi Maluku, Negeri Wakal menjadi yang pertama kali melaksanakan ibadah puasa.
Dikutip dari Kompas.com, mereka menjalankan shalat tarawih di Masjid Nurul Awal pada Rabu (26/2).
Raja Negeri Wakal, Ahaja Suneth buka suara terkait hal itu.
Ia mengatakan perhitungan bulan Ramadhan di Negeri Wakal sesuai bulan Syakban.
Pihaknya menegaskan hal itu telah dilakukan secara turun-temurun.
“Memang benar perhitungan kami di Wakal itu bukan tradisi, tapi memang dalam kalender Islam mengikuti bulan Syakban. Jatuhnya pada Kamis ini adalah awal puasa hari pertama,” katanya kepada Kompas.com melalui sambungan telepon Kamis malam.
Ahaja Suneth mengatakan ibadah puasa yang dijalankan sama dengan umat Muslim lainnya.
Yang membedakan hanyalah waktu puasa pertama dan penetapan hari Raya Idul Fitri.
Pihaknya juga memiliki ciri khas yang berbeda dalam menjalankan puasa dibanding daerah lain di Maluku.
Raja Wakal mengatakan mreka memiliki makanan khas untuk berbuka puasa yakni roti bale-bale.
