Kerusuhan ini melibatkan kelompok masyarakat, menyebabkan pembakaran bangunan dan serangan terhadap aparat keamanan.
Kabid Humas Polda Papua Kombes Cahyo Sukarnito mengatakan, saat tiba di lokasi, pihaknya mendapati sejumlah bangunan di sekitar sekolah telah terbakar.
"Jadi ketika mencoba mengamankan situasi lima personel Polres diserang oleh massa, memaksa mereka mundur ke markas, akibatnya salah satu anggota kami mengalami luka serius akibat terkena anak panah di kepala dan kini tengah dirawat intensif di RSUD Yalimo," jelasnya saya diwawancarai Tribun Papua di Jayapura Selasa 16 September 2025.
Kerusuhan diduga dipicu oleh perselisihan dua siswa yang duduk satu meja.
Diduga ada ujaran bernada rasis yang menjadi pemantik emosi dan kemudian meluas ke luar lingkungan sekolah.
Oleh karena itu, Pemerintah Kabupaten Yalimo bersama aparat keamanan tengah berupaya mengendalikan situasi dan mencegah kerusuhan meluas.
Kapolda Papua juga mengimbau seluruh masyarakat untuk menahan diri, tidak terprovokasi, dan menghindari aksi main hakim sendiri.
