CERNOBBIO (ITALPRESS) - "L'Unione Europea si è affermata come un'area di pace e di cooperazione capace di proiettare i suoi valori oltre i suoi confini, determinando stabilità, benessere, crescita, fiducia. Non ha mai scatenato un conflitto, non ha mai avviato uno scontro commerciale. Al contrario, ha agevolato intese e dispiegato missioni di pace. Ha contribuito a elevare standard di vita, criteri di difesa del pianeta. Ha promosso incontri e dialoghi e ha alimentato libertà nei rapporti internazionali, eguaglianza di diritti tra popoli e Stati: condizioni e causa di progresso. Si pone, quindi, anzitutto, una domanda, prima di ogni altra. Come è possibile, su queste basi, che l'Europa oggi venga considerata da alcuni un ostacolo, un avversario se non un nemico? Quali sono le ragioni, gli interessi di fondo, i principi sui quali si basa la convivenza civile e i traguardi raggiunti dai popoli europei che qualcuno considera disvalori? È soltanto affrontando con lucidità interrogativi di questa natura che potremo trovare risposte esaurienti, utili a illuminare le scelte che siamo chiamati a compiere, pena l'irrilevanza e la regressione rispetto ai risultati sin qui raggiunti".
