Im April 2026 wird im EU-Staat Ungarn gewählt. Aktuell liegt Oppositionsführer Peter Magyar mit seinem Mitte-Rechts-Kurs vorne. Viele Ungarn sind unzufrieden mit der wirtschaftlichen Lage. Sie glauben, dass die Politik von Ministerpräsident Viktor Orban vor allem der reichen Oberschicht nutzt. Ihre Hoffnung: Dass die künftige Regierung das Land nicht mehr ausplündert, sondern sich um Gesundheit, Bildung und Verkehr kümmert.

Allerdings: In seiner 15-jährigen Amtszeit hat Orban „den Rechtsstaat und die Demokratie kaputt gemacht“, sagt der EU-Parlamentarier Daniel Freund (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen). Nun nutze er alle Möglichkeiten, um Magyar in der Öffentlichkeit zu diskreditieren, und versucht sein System zu schützen, in dem Korruption und Begünstigung seiner engen Vertrauten einen festen Platz haben.
