Modern Classical Composers | Contemporary Classical

Classical music is not just a tradition, something past, preserved behind glass to be admired as though in a museum. It is a living art form that continues to create, innovate, and more than anything else, move and inspire audiences, whether they realise that or not.
Take the film scores of Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, and Joe Hisaishi. In many cases it is these artworks that make the movie, that convey mood and emotion, the feeling of the moment, to the audience. Where would The Mission be without the transcendent, human voice of Gabriel’s Oboe?
Then there is the neo-classicist movement, such as that of Einaudi and Luke Faulkner, which resurrected the musical forms and harmonies of past centuries to develop new styles that offer an alternative view on modern life from the contemporary, avant-garde approach.
And more than that, it remains a living tradition in its performers, who engage with the music, past and present, in new ways that shed light on piece old and new, such as in Mr & Mrs Cello’s arrangement of many of these composers for two cellos.
