'BLOs on SIR Duty Denied Days Off, Even My Paternity Leave Came 3 Months Late' | The Quint
A government school teacher in Delhi, working as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) duty, says he hasn’t had a single day off since May 2026, not even on weekends or holidays. He also says that teachers are warned that their jobs could be at risk if they refuse, leaving them stretched between school and election work. After teaching seven classes a day, he goes door-to-door collecting documents, helping voters fill out forms, and uploading everything to the Election Commission website, often returning home at 10 or 11 pm. He was also denied leave during his wife’s complicated pregnancy and delivery, and now needs ERO permission to take paternity leave. The pay is just Rs 1,000 a month, which many teachers say they haven’t received yet.
