Namun muncul dugaan bahwa Devi tengah menghindari kejaran polisi.
Seorang warga di sekitar kediaman Devi di Pondok Aren, Tangerang Selatan yang enggan disebutkan namanya mengatakan, sosok Devi dikenal karena kasus hukumnya.
Devi disebut kerap keluar masuk penjara karena kasus narkoba.
Warga tersebut juga mengatakan, pihak kepolisian sempat menggeledah rumah Devi saat pria tersebut menghilang pada Sabtu (25/5/2024).
Untuk itulah warga merasa curiga jika Devi sengaja masuk ke dalam toren air untuk bersembunyi dari kejaran polisi.
Sementara itu, pemilik toren air, Sutrisno mengatakan mengetahui adanya penggerebekan dari pengurus lingkungan setempat seusai melaporkan temuan mayat.
Sutrisno juga mendapat laporan dari tetangganya yang mendengar suara orang dicekik di dekat toren air.
Adapun dari hasil autopsi menunjukkan Devi dalam keadaan hidup saat terendam air.
Selain itu juga tak ditemukan bekas kekerasan atau luka.
