Selain itu, Cohen menyatakan bahwa Israel sebenarnya tak niat membantu membangun infrastruktur Gaza yang kini hancur.
Menurut Eli Cohen, militer Israel itu memiliki dua tujuan di Gaza.
Pertama, mengembalikan tahanan Hamas di Jalur Gaza.
Lalu yang kedua berupaya menundukkan gerakan Palestina, Hamas.
Hal itu diberitakan Tribunnews.com pada Minggu (13/7/2025).
"Tentara Israel memiliki dua tujuan di Gaza, yang pertama adalah mengembalikan tahanan Hamas di Jalur Gaza, dan yang kedua adalah menundukkan gerakan Palestina," kata Eli Cohen dalam wawancaranya dengan Channel 14 Israel.
Pernyataan Eli itu menanggapi kunjungan Perdana Menteri Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu ke Washington yang bertemu dengan Presiden Amerika Serikat, Donald Trump.
Sebagai informasi, Netanyahu mengunjungi Trump ialah untuk membahas upaya gencatan senjata dengan Hamas.
Mengingat, upaya perundingan itu hingga kini masih menghadapi sejumlah hambatan.
Termasuk perihal persyaratak yang diajukan dari kedua belah pihak.
Diketahui Trump dan Netanyahu mengusulkan gencatan senjata selama 60 hari.
Namun, Hamas hanya akan menyetujui gencatan senjata jika mengarah pada penghentian permanen serangan militer Israel di Gaza.
