KOMPAS.TV - Inggris akhirnya mengakui negara Palestina. Langkah bersejarah ini dinyatakan Perdana Menteri Inggris, Keir Starmer, meski mendapat tentangan dari Amerika Serikat dan Israel.Langkah pengakuan tersebut muncul di tengah agresi besar-besaran Israel di Jalur Gaza yang telah menewaskan lebih dari 65 ribu warga Gaza. Australia juga ikut bergabung dengan Inggris yang secara resmi mengakui negara Palestina.
Perdana Menteri Australia, Anthony Albanese, mengatakan Australia mengakui aspirasi sah yang telah lama dipegang rakyat Palestina untuk memiliki negara sendiri.
Pada Jumat, 12 September lalu, Majelis Umum Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa mengesahkan Deklarasi New York untuk mendorong solusi dua negara yang damai dan berkelanjutan. Deklarasi ini didukung mayoritas anggota PBB, dengan 142 negara setuju, 10 negara menolak, dan 12 negara abstain.
