Morocco Gen Z Protests Rage on, Student's Death Fuels Public Outrage | Firstpost Africa | N18G8G

Youth-led demonstrations have gripped Morocco, as protesters continue to take to the streets across major cities, including Rabat, Casablanca, and Tetouan. The protests, which began on September 27, have shown no sign of abating, fuelled by demands for urgent reforms in the health and education sectors, an end to corruption, and a call for a change of government. Protesters have rejected Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch's call for dialogue and demanded his resignation. The protests turned deadly near Agadir last week after police opened fire at a group reportedly attempting to attack security forces, resulting in at least three deaths. Widespread anger has been mounting over the government's alleged misprioritisation of spending on international sporting events, such as the 2030 FIFA World Cup, over health and education sectors.
