Today I’m speaking with Austrian political scientist and university professor Gerhard Mangott. Dr. Mangott teaches and conducts research at the University of Innsbruck, focusing on international relations and security in the post-Soviet space.Professor Mangott is also a frequent guest in German-language media and has become one of the increasingly rare voices advocating a measured policy toward Russia. For this, he has repeatedly been criticized, and in recent weeks he has been the target of what amounts to a smear campaign on Twitter.
What I find most alarming about the degeneration of political discourse is that he is seriously being accused of wanting to “build bridges to Russia.” These days, that seems to have become a kind of social crime.
