West Philippine Sea Tensions: Manila Asks Troops To Be War-Ready Without US Help | Spotlight | N18GPhilippines: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the Armed Forces to be ready to defend alone for 20 to 30 days if war breaks out according to Army chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. The army chief said forces must “fight and preserve” before allied reinforcements arrive under the US Mutual Defense Treaty. The move follows maritime run-ins with Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea and rising sovereignty concerns. The directive covers about 160,000 active troops and will be rehearsed during AJEX DAGIT-PA drills across Luzon and Palawan. Exercises will test sea, air, land, cyber and information operations. The new Strategic Command aims to centralize wartime coordination.
