Nach dem Sturz des Assad-Regimes hofften viele Frauen auf politische Mitsprache. Die Zahnärztin Angela Khoury kandidierte für das Parlament, doch nur sechs von 119 Sitzen gingen an Frauen. Aktivistinnen wie Mozna Dureid warnen vor wachsender Ungleichheit und Gewalt: Dutzende Frauen wurden entführt, und die Übergangsregierung reagierte kaum. Trotz Widerständen bleibt Khoury entschlossen, Teil des Entscheidungsprozesses zu sein. "Frauen sollten nicht wie Rosen sein, die nur dekorieren", sagt sie. Ihr Kampf steht für den vieler Syrerinnen: um Sitze, Sicherheit und eine Zukunft, in der ihre Stimmen gehört werden.
