Steam Frame Teardown Valve Did This Right
Valve's Steam Frame is finally here, and we're tearing it all the way down to see whether Valve brought the repair-friendly design of the Steam Deck to VR.Inside we find a surprisingly modular headset: a quick-release headstrap, replaceable battery, magnetic lens stacks, expandable microSD storage, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, some clever thermal engineering, and a whole lot of infrared hardware for tracking. We also take a closer look at Valve's foveated streaming system and CT scan one of the new Steam Frame controllers to see what's hiding inside.
Not everything is perfect—the cooling fan is buried deep inside the headset and the battery still relies on adhesive—but compared with many VR headsets we've torn down, Valve has clearly put serviceability near the top of its priority list.
