SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide - Full Story Playthrough
SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is a brand new 3D platformer from THQ Nordic and developer Purple Lamp Studios. This is a pretty casual playthrough of all the story missions, with no side quests done, and I didn't go out of my way to get any collectibles. So don't be fooled by the relatively short video length, there's a lot more to do. There are lots of costumes to find, minigames and side quests to complete, hidden collectibles to get, and Plankton's platforming challenge missions to complete, so it can keep you busy for a while if you want to complete everything. This is a totally different type of game and video for my channel. I loved SpongeBob when I was a kid, and I still like watching the original seasons and the first movie. I always wanted to play Battle for Bikini Bottom and Cosmic Shake, but I have so much to do that I just never took the time out for them. THQ sent me a key for Titans of the Tide, so I thought I finally had a good opportunity to play one of these. And I had fun with this game! It's clearly aimed at kids, with low difficulty and very forgiving design, but it's all nicely polished and very well made. I really like the animation especially, and the graphics as a whole look really nice. They went hard on references to the first few seasons and the first movie as well, so old fans like me can appreciate that. I have no idea what modern SpongeBob is like, so I'm glad I wasn't aged out of the game lol.
I always thought I'd like these SpongeBob games, and finally playing one confirmed that. If this came out when I was a kid, I'm sure I'd love it and already have 100% completion. But even as an adult, it's a fun collectathon that harkens back to that N64, early PS2 era. None of the collectibles are essential though, it seems like it's all coins and costumes, so you're free to ignore them if you want. Personally, my ideal collectathon is still the original Banjo-Kazooie, so I'd probably like this more if it designed like that, but this was still a fun game. On the contrary, I like that you can just play straight through the story without any diversions. That's nice too.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is available now on every platform for $39.99. Thanks again to THQ Nordic for sending over a key!
