"Israel sangat menyesalkan kecelakaan tragis yang terjadi hari ini di Rumah Sakit Nasser di Gaza. Israel menghargai kerja keras para jurnalis, staf medis, dan seluruh warga sipil. Otoritas militer sedang melakukan penyelidikan menyeluruh," demikian bunyi pernyataan tersebut, dikutip dari The Times of Israel.
Serangan itu menewaskan sedikitnya 20 orang, termasuk wartawan dan tenaga medis, dikutip Kamis (28/8).
Unit elit Sayeret Givati yang terlibat dalam operasi tersebut dikabarkan marah.
Mereka menilai pernyataan Netanyahu sebagai bentuk pengkhianatan terhadap pasukan yang menjalankan perintah.
Media lokal melaporkan, tentara mengonfirmasi serangan itu telah melalui persetujuan komando senior.
Namun, kritik muncul setelah Netanyahu menyebut insiden itu sebagai kecelakaan tragis.
Serangan terhadap RS Nasser disebut sebagai upaya menghancurkan kamera pengintai Hamas.
Namun, jatuhnya korban sipil membuat kecaman global semakin besar.
Netanyahu akhirnya mengeluarkan pernyataan resmi dalam bahasa Inggris.
Dalam pernyataannya, Israel mengaku sangat menyesalkan peristiwa di RS Nasser.
Pemerintah juga berjanji melakukan penyelidikan menyeluruh atas kejadian itu.
