India is on the lookout for new fighter jets as it faces a severe shortage in Squadron strength with aging aircraft like the Mirage, Jaguar and the Mig-29 scheduled to retire shortly. On one hand France is pushing hard to secure the historic 114 rafale deal. French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to work closely with India to improve the indigenous content on the Rafale. If signed, 24 Rafale will be made in France and will be delivered in fly-away condition while the remaining 90 will be made in India. On the other hand Russian President Vladimir Putin has pitched to sell the Sukhoi-57 stealth fighter jet to India. Putin says that he is willing to sweeten the Su-57 deal for India by offering full technology transfer, source code and is even willing to help India build its own fighter jet engine.
