Seorang dokter Palestina, Dr. Hamdi al-Najjar (40), meninggal dunia akibat luka parah yang dideritanya dalam serangan udara yang dilakukan oleh Israel pada 23 Mei 2025.
Dalam insiden tersebut, sembilan dari sepuluh anaknya juga turut menjadi korban jiwa.
Sebelum serangan terjadi, Dr. Hamdi baru saja mengantar istrinya, Dr. Alaa al-Najjar, ke Rumah Sakit Nasser tempat mereka bekerja.
Tak lama kemudian, rumah mereka di Khan Younis hancur akibat serangan udara.
Hanya Alaa dan anak bungsu mereka, Adam (11), yang berhasil selamat.
Namun, Adam mengalami luka berat dan saat ini sedang menjalani perawatan intensif.
Dr. Hamdi mengalami cedera serius pada otak, paru-paru, lengan kanan, serta ginjal.
Ia sempat dirawat secara intensif, tetapi akhirnya meninggal dunia pada Sabtu (31/5/2025).
Dr. Alaa kini berjuang merawat Adam yang mengalami luka parah, termasuk lengan yang hampir terputus dan sejumlah luka akibat serpihan bom.
Saudara korban, Dr. Ali al-Najjar, menyebut bahwa Hamdi dikenal sebagai dokter yang dermawan dan sering membantu pasien miskin tanpa memungut biaya.
Ia juga mengimbau pemerintah Italia untuk segera mengevakuasi Adam ke rumah sakit di luar negeri karena keterbatasan fasilitas medis di Gaza.
Pemerintah Italia sendiri telah menyatakan kesiapannya untuk membantu proses evakuasi medis tersebut dan sedang mengkaji langkah-langkah yang perlu diambil.
