Anggota Dewan Pers Totok Suryanto dalam jumpa pers pada Selasa (2/7/2024), meminta Kapolri Jenderal Listyo Sigit Prabowo beserta Kapolda Sumut untuk mengusut tuntas kasus ini.
Diharapkan tim penyelidikan tersebut bersikap adil dan imparsial.
Totok menegaskan bahwa kekerasan terhadap wartawan dan pers merupakan pelanggaran hukum dan bertentangan dengan UU nomor 40 tahun 1999 tentang pers.
Selain itu, Dewan Pers juga mendorong agar Panglima TNI Jenderal Agus Subiyanto dan Pangdam Bukit Barisan juga membentuk tim serupa.
Dewan Pers juga meminta Komnas HAM dan LPSK ikut turut serta dalam proses investigasi dan memberikan perlindungan pada pihak korban.
Lebih lanjut, Totok mengimbau agar semua wartawan dapat bekerja secara profesional dan memegang teguh kode etik jurnalistik serta aturan yang berlaku.
Adapun Dewan Pers telah mengungkapkan ada dua versi penyebab kebakaran di rumah Sempurna Pasaribu.
Pertama dugaan keterlibatan oknum TNI terkait pemberitaan judi.
Kedua yakni adanya ceceran bensin di rumah korban yang kemudian menyulut api.
Adapun korban sendiri diketahui berjualan bensin eceran di rumahnya.
