Flying the Boeing 787: Oman Air Cockpit Milan to Muscat
Join us in the cockpit of an Oman Air Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for a flight from Milan Malpensa to Muscat. From departure preparations to a sunrise arrival in Oman, the pilots explain their aircraft, its systems and the work that goes into operating this long-haul flight.Gabriel Leigh takes the jumpseat for a night on the flight deck with a crew who clearly love flying the 787. We learn about the Dreamliner’s head-up displays (HUDs), watch streams of oncoming aircraft passing us in the night over Syria and Saudi Arabia, and catch a memorable greeting as one aircraft flashes its lights at us.
There’s also dinner at the jumpseat’s own tray table (a surprise to us), a steady supply of coffee and snacks from Oman Air’s excellent cabin crew, and plenty of time to see how these pilots work before the sun rises on our approach to Muscat International Airport.
