Pelaku pembunuhan Dina adalah Heryanto yang merupakan teman sekaligus atasan korban di sebuah minimarket.
Pelaku mengaku awalnya merasa dekat dengan Dina karena korban sering curhat masalah asmara dengan mantan kekasihnya.
Pelaku kemudian menyarankan Dina untuk "berobat" kepada orang pintar yang ia kenal. Ini menjadi alasan Heryanto mengajak Dina bertemu di rumahnya di Purwakarta.
Saat berada di rumah Heryanto di Cibatu, pelaku melancarkan aksinya. Heryanto membekap dan mencekik korban hingga Dina meninggal dunia.
Setelah korban dipastikan tewas, pelaku melakukan aksi keji lain, yakni memperkosa mayat korban.
Setelah itu, pelaku mengambil barang-barang berharga milik Dina, termasuk perhiasan, handphone, sepeda motor, dan mobil.
Jasad Dina kemudian dibuang ke Sungai Citarum, dan ditemukan mengambang di Dusun Munjul Kaler, Desa Curug, Kecamatan Klari, Karawang.
Menurut keterangan dari pihak kepolisian dan pengakuan sementara pelaku, motif utama Heryanto melakukan pembunuhan sadis tersebut adalah faktor ekonomi dan keinginan menguasai harta korban.
