Lima terdakwa pembunuhan itu juga telah dijatuhi hukuman pada Jumat (13/7/2024).
Dua penghasut divonis 34 tahun delapan bulan penjara, sementara tiga kaki tangannya dijatuhi hukuman 12 tahun penjara.
Dilansir dari Washingtonpost, penembakan calon presiden Ekuador, Fernando Villavicencio pada 2023 lalu dilakukan oleh lima orang.
Dua di antaranya berperan sebagai penghasut, sementara tiga lainnya menjadi eksekutor.
Kelimanya kini telah dijatuhi hukuman.
Di mana dua eksekutor dijatuhi hukuman 34 tahun delapan bulan penjara, serta denda untuk keluarga korban sebesar 100 ribu dolar.
Sedangkan tiga eksekutor penembakan tersebut dijatuhi hukuman 12 tahun penjara dan denda masing-masing 33 ribu dolar.
Menurut kejaksaan, salah satu penghasut penembakan ini merupakan Carlos Angulo.
Dalam kasus ini, Carlos mengoordinasikan pembunuhan dari dalam penjara tempat ia ditahan di Ekuador.
Ia memberikan instruksi melalui konferensi video kepada orang lain untuk melakukan eksekusi, yang direkam di ponsel mereka.
Kemudian penghasut lainnya merupakan seorang wanita bernama Laura Castillo.
Ia bertanggung jawab menyediakan elemen logistik termasuk sepeda motor dan uang kepada orang-orang bersenjata.
